“Both a sad and hilarious commentary on the state of the modern workplace.”—New York Times
What do your colleagues, overlords, underlings, clients, and customers have in common? Not knowing how much they annoy you. Not to mention how much you may be annoying them. The route from cubicle to corner office is strewn with etiquette landmines. And now that the boundaries that once cleanly separated work from personal life are blurred, even polite people don’t recognize the difference between professional and social manners.
- What do you say to a colleague who has just been fired?
- How do you maintain a family-friendly office without discriminating against singles?
- What’s the difference between showing romantic interest and sexual harassment?
- Which colleagues should be invited to family weddings?
- When should you be unavailable, at or away from work?
Don’t convene a focus group or appeal to Human Resources—consult Miss Manners!
With wit and wisdom, Miss Manners restores civility, guiding you around your coworker’s messy cubicle, past your overly prying boss, around the bridal shower for the new temp, and through tedious staff meetings.
In Miss Manners Minds Your Business, Judith Martin and her son, executive Nicholas Ivor Martin, equip readers with the practical, pertinent, and utterly correct advice necessary to win the job, keep the job, and leave the job with sanity and dignity intact.

From Booklist
Digital technologies have brought immense changes to the workplace, including “the blurring of the line between the personal and the professional,” a boundary nationally syndicated columnist and best-selling author Martin, aka Miss Manners, seeks to reestablish. In her seventeenth book, she takes on the challenges of office life and advocates firmly for civility, with the assistance of her son, Nicholas, director of operations at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Responding to hilarious, troubling, and illuminating examples of atrocious behavior and appalling situations, the Martins offer brisk and practical guidance on coping with everything from job interviews to phone, e-mail, and social-media protocol to office hygiene and attire (including nose rings), loud talkers, snoops, snitches, and time wasters. As they parse delicate questions of hierarchy, privacy, focus, gender, age, family matters, illness, gossip, rants, business trips, meetings, and socializing, the Martins broach the very core of human relationships. They also drive home the fact that our lives would be vastly improved if we consistently worked together with dignity, respect, responsibility, patience, and, as they so ably demonstrate, a sense of humor. --Donna Seaman

Relevant and Enlightening
By Marie
Miss Manners addresses all kinds of concerns faced by people in the workplace in her usual wise and humorous style. Sometimes I wonder how Judith Martin finds out about the things that people do -- things they would never do in her presence. She's able to discern much more than just what a Gentle Reader tells in a letter. Almost like she's been there, done that. But that's not possible...

Who's Minding the Store? Why, Miss Manners -- What Else Did You Expect? -
By Allen Smalling
MISS MANNERS MINDS YOUR BUSINESS is the latest in a long line of Miss Manners books. As always, Judith Martin is at the helm, this time joined by her real-life son, Nicholas Ivor Martin, GM for Chicago's Lyric Opera. An enjoyable book in the Miss Manners style; those who have read her earlier books will have a good idea what to expect. For those that haven't, each chapter is in two parts: the first, Judith Martin's (Miss Manners') thoughts on aspects of business life, particularly the inroads of privacy-destroying technology and the amount of "pseudo-socializing" that would make colleagues and co-workers into friends and buddies -- or does it? The second part consists of Q&A from beleaguered questioners and Miss Manners' sensible and often witty answers. A fine book, but I did miss the pen-and-ink drawings that have accompanied many earlier titles such as the ground-breaking Miss Manners' Guide to Excruciatingly Correct Behavior (Freshly Updated) (1978, revised 2005). Even an observer as prickly and relatively detached as Judith Martin nonetheless comes off, at times, as put off by a business culture so unwittingly bipolar: stricter than ever regarding speech and gender issues yet urging its employees to whoop it up at parties full of unwritten rules about true vs. decorative whooping. Employees are frequently urged to reveal their pasts in terms of disadvantages overcome, even to the extent of mentioning 12-step-histories, ironically putting the truly strait-laced and circumspect under a cloud of suspicion for suspected, but repressed or unacknowledged sins. This was a tough row to hoe, but it came off well. I wish the book had been a little longer.
