Previously, Davis headed the Mathematical Arbitrage Trading Desk at Bear Stearns. With several billion in capital and operated like a private hedge fund, the Mathematical Arbitrage Trading Desk handled Bear Stearns s proprietary investments in the equities, energy, commodities, and option markets.

Fantastic Study Guide for GARP ERP Exam

This is a fantastic book, but the title is misleading: this is not a handbook for prospective traders - it is a handbook for RISK MANAGERS
First, and foremost, this is a study guide for the GARP ERP certification (Global Assoc of Risk Professionals, Energy Risk Professional.) It also has a lot of relevance for CFA and NASD Series 3 exams. The writing is clear, concise, and comprehensive. It explains all the concepts you need. It has a lot of sample questions and answers.
If you are going to buy one guide for the GARP/ERP exam: Buy this one.
Second, this is a valuable introduction for veterans of the financial services industry who need to learn more about commodity/energy products. It is pitched at a very good level for someone in risk management, middle office, valuation control or technology moving over to a commodities/energy role to quickly come up to speed with major concepts and terminology. If you work at an investment bank, hedge fund, or a related industry (financial analyst, auditor, regulator), this is a good way to get up to speed very quickly. The concepts, examples and material in this is book are accurate, well explained and up to date.
It is excellent at what it does, but the title should have been: "Energy Risk Professional" DeMystified

Not really a book on energy investing, but it is possibly?

Sorry for the confusing title, it is appropriate for a book that is laid out in this fashion.
It begins with a primer on energy types and transportation. Oil, gas, ethanol, tankers etc.
Then there is a primer on different types of investments, stocks, options, bonds and derivatives.
Then the books over.
There is nothing tying everything together to show the reader information on actually investing in these markets. There is nothing showing the reader where to go to make such investments no heuristics or hard won information on these types of investing. Basically nothing related to the title of the book. You can find any and all of this information on Wikipedia or Investopedia.
