This is a religious based book about health and weight from the Church Health Center in Memphis. Like the other books in the series, it is easy to read while offering easy to follow ideas in order to get you to help yourself to better weight.
Unlike other diet books, this one does not give you menus or recipes. There are no rigid guidelines of foods to eat or not eat. Instead, there are suggestions on how to change things yourself for the better. There are also stories of real people who have struggled with their weight, and found help. This is part of an entire series of books following the 40-day plan to bettering yourself and your life. About the Author
Dr. Scott Morris is a family practice physician and ordained United Methodist minister who founded the Church Health Center in Memphis, Tennessee. The center, formed in 1987 to provide quality healthcare for working, uninsured people, has grown to become the largest faith-based clinic of its type in the United States.

With plenty of practical advice, biblical encouragement, and stories of real people who've taken the same journey, this book--from the Church Health Center in Memphis, the largest faith-based clinic of its type in the U.S.--may be one of the most important books your customers will read this year.
I found this book to be a quick read with oversimplified information. Many things were useful information and yet there was no new information or theories. It was a fix yourself and encouragement to get it right. The book goes through a week by week encouragement that can be quite depressing if you do and cannot lose weight. I did not care for the do better try harder mentality of this book. It does not take into account that many people need to look at the foods they eat and determine if they are helpful and harmful, especially if you are 50 pounds or greater overweight. It also does not take into account that it will take more than 40 days to lose weight and how to bring back favorite foods back into their diet.

Great devotional.weightloss

What if you were given a challenge that in 40 days you would have a better grasp at your weight management? I know I would try it, and am sure you would too. The past 40 days I have been reading and challenging myself with this very topic. I have been reading and enjoying the book 40 Days to Better Weight Management.
For forty days, there is a new topic and reflection. Each day starts with a morning reflection that is divided into subsections: faith, life, medical, movement, work, emotional, family, friends, nutrition and more. The daily entry ends with an evening wrap up where you close the day.
I really like how this book starts and ends each day with a prayer and way to refocus you on your goals. I also like how this doesn't just say, "fix you eating and move more" as there is always more to the weight issue than we know.

Putting it all together for weight management

The Church Health Center in Memphis is a faith based clinic that specializes in helping people apply all aspects of their lives to health, and Dr. Scott Morris is its founder. In this new book, those areas are examined so that individuals can be more in control of their weight. What are the areas? Faith, Medical, Movement, Work, Emotional, Family and Friends. When taken as a whole individuals will not only be able to work on themselves, but find the support system to stick to their plan. Reading the personal stories provides inspiration to continue the lifelong goal of weight management. The challenge is to try this for 40 days and see how your life and health change. Amazing things happen when we combine all the areas! Come on, why not try? Be amazed in just 40 day.
I love to read books that will help me with weight loss/management. This book especially spoke to me because it combines all areas of my life and gives me more tools for success. The daily goals are attainable, and I loved the personal stories, morning reflections, and daily practices sections. I recommend this book to anyone who would love an extra nudge, or just wants more practical suggestions on weight management. I received my free copy from Net Galley and the publisher, and thank them for it.
