About the Author
Ethel Lina White was born in the spring of 1876 in Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, Wales. She grew up with five sisters and five brothers. It was much to delight her lively imagination. She wrote three novels before her first mystery, the genre that she excelled in. Indeed, Some Must Watch was made in to the movie, the Spiral Staircase three times. Two of her other books were made in to thrillers. Alfred Hitchcock used "the Wheel Spins" for his movie "the Lady Vanishes" and John Houseman used her" They see in Darkness" for his movie, "the Unseen". Ms. White passed away in the summer of 1944 in Chiswick, near Kew Gardens, London.

Love the story but this kindle version too many typos

I had to change my version to another kindle because not even 14% in, there were just too many typos & paragraphs that were off which made reading unenjoyable! Need to fix this version!

a gripping great but forgotten book

Some Must Watch carries the reader along right from the beginning, ratcheting up suspense to the screaming point, yet without the excess of gore to which numerous modern-day works are regrettably prone. The novel makes use of readers' expectations of behavior, of characters who may or may not be what they seem, the whole presented with a fair amount of masterly misdirection and psychological study. It's an excellent read for a dark and stormy night. Just make certain you're locked in and the windows are closed and shuttered before you begin. This woman can write. I am not surprised her books were made into movies. This is a must read.

Creepy Classic

The inspiration for "The Spiral Staircase" is good creepy fun. The psychological suspense and claustrophobia build up right up to the end.
