Frustrating due to errors

This book is a waste of time and money. It is nothing but a collection of case studies that are not realistic or helpful. Some chapters offer a dumbed-down version of Q and A that reads like a weak inner monologue, and the errors make it almost impossible to read. I had to use it for a graduate course, and the only way I could stand reading it was to correct errors as I went. Granted, I'm an English teacher, but this is a text for educators at the Master's level. Subject/verb agreement isn't too much to expect. Thank goodness I only rented it.

I LOVE this book. It's the fifth edition and the best yet! It is thorough and thought provoking - my students love it and I continue to learn from it. Chapters range from intellectual freedom to equality to teacher professionalism. If you don't have this book I highly recommend it!

I prefer a textbook that is paginated like the actual text, but this worked out okay. I found out how to reference the Kindle edition for my papers so I can live without the page numbers.

Born the son of a Billingsgate market porter at the height of the Second World War, David Jason spent his early life dodging bombs and bullies, both with impish good timing. Giving up on an unloved career as an electrician, he turned his attention to acting and soon, through a natural talent for making people laugh, found himself working with the leading lights of British comedy in the 1960s and '70s: Eric Idle, Michael Palin, Bob Monkhouse and Ronnie Barker. It wasn’t until 1981, kitted out with a sheepskin jacket, a flat cap, and a clapped-out Reliant Regal, that David found the part that would capture the nation’s hearts: the beloved Derek ‘Del Boy’ Trotter in Only Fools and Horses. Never a one-trick pony, he had an award-winning spell as TV’s favourite detective Jack Frost, took a country jaunt as Pop Larkin in the Darling Buds of May, and even voiced a crime-fighting cartoon rodent in the much-loved children’s show Danger Mouse.

But life hasn't all been so easy: from missing out on a key role in Dad’s Army to nearly drowning in a freak diving accident, David has had his fair share of ups and downs, and has lost some of his nearest and dearest along the way.

David’s is a touching, funny and warm-hearted story, which charts the course of his incredible five decades at the top of the entertainment business. He's been a shopkeeper and a detective inspector, a crime-fighter and a market trader, and he ain't finished yet. As Del Boy would say, it's all cushty.

A wonderful experience.

I have,nt quite finished reading this wonderful autobiography.
It is well written and full of the humour and brilliance he has
shown in his many series, yet he comes across as a very humble
man.I would imagine it would appeal most to those readers who
are familiar with all his comedy series, as well as the more
recent 'Inspector Frost' series in which he played the aforesaid
quite brilliantly.

I have just finished reading this laugh out loud well written autobiography . I am so sorry I have come to the end. The book contains everything humour sadness but what comes through the pages is the warmth of David Jason not the big star but someone who has a real passion for what he does but is able to separate his private life from public and is completely level jeaded

This is a super interesting book that I thoroughly enjoyed. It was very well-written--it had loads of humor and also heartfelt memories. I completely recommend it and it's made me revisit as many of David Jason's shows as I can!

Tweaked my Interest!

I haven't watched the TV series, but I have read all of Jr. Rain 's works. I expected a "main" mystery and maybe an storyline undertow that ties to the series that would have me lost. That didn't happen! The "main" mystery is solved and it's more suspense and discovering a new universe for those new to the Vampire Diaries. The different take on witches and elementals is amazing and the next time I see the show on I will have to check it out!

Elementals, Vampires and Angels

WOW! I am a paranormal fan so when J.R. Rain released a novella with Vampires, Elementals, Witches, Angels.. and a a few surprises, I KNEW I had to read the story .. Our Hero is Max Long (cute huh?) a eeehh average Private investigator who is hired to by Gracie Lockwood to find her sister and her sister's boyfriend's killer in the very eerie town of Mystic Falls, where right now... a lot of people die and its just.. oh well... another one gone... Max discovers some strange things about himself along the way that are making him question his sanity...he also discovers that these killings are done by a vampire ..bring in the Salvatore Brothers (150 yr old young cocky vampires who are NOT nice) a couple of witches with a powerful book and spell... a surprise werewolf an Arch Angel and an Elemental to balance nature ... and you have what I Promise is a story that will keep you guessing whats going to happen next.. This is a short read.. I read it last night.. VERY entertaining (Love the Arch Angel) and as always with J.R. Rain Humor.. I'm DEFINITELY going to read more of of this series.. I give this novella 5 flames from my palms cause the book is HOT!!!!

Not into vampire diaries, but this was good!

I'm not a vampire diaries fan, have never watched the show, or read the books, but I bought this one because it was by one of my favorite authors and I really enjoyed it. It was edge of your seat excitement, but at the same time, bits of humor. I really found myself falling in love with the Salvatore brothers and I think I will need to keep an open mind to the series now. I would recommend this story, even if you don't know much about vampire diaries, you don't have to, to enjoy this book. Great one.

I would highly recommend anyone who has to wrestle with the condition of hypertension to go through this journal.  It gives daily guidance on what to do. It gives encouragement by its motivational true life stories and quotations from Scripture. It gives the needed extra push to help one progress from experiencing physical and emotional setbacks to gaining optimal health. 
I am not a person with hypertension, but this journal gave me enough wisdom and encouragement to do what I need to do in order that I can have control over my lifestyle, thus lessening the risk of having hypertension in the future. (Christine V. Inspirational Life Quotes 20111001)

Lowering Your Blood Pressure

Having learned that I now have hypertension, I wanted to find a way to work on it in a sensible way. Now, I'm a `type A' personality that wants to get it done yesterday! This book, however, does not get you there yesterday!

40 Days to Better Living: Hypertension is a book that requires a balance between medications, lifestyle, emotions, family and friends, diet , exercise, stress, nutrition, and most importantly, prayer and meditation on God's goals for healthy living.

The book holds you accountable, yet doesn't condemn if you fail. In fact, it encourages you from the morning reflection to the evening wrap-up. It sets the tone by taking time to pray and/or meditate and plan some goals for your day. It's divided into six individual weeks, based on six different individuals, in a 40-day journey. Two days are left for reviewing what you did or didn't accomplish, rejoicing in the good changes, and reflecting on your continuing future goals.

Now you are ready to begin working on a lifestyle of wellness, changing and adding exercises, foods, and eating habits for the better. As we are admonished, "Remember to take time to pray or meditate each day."

A quick reminder: these six different people came to the Church Health Center for assistance. I don't think this book was necessarily meant to be used without medical supervision. I would look at this book as a work-along with your physician's advice, as each person's health is different. I know my health is way different from the six patients described here in the book, so I would need some guidance and direction.

This book is not the `let's get this done yesterday' book, but it is sensible and useful. As an aside, the photos themselves are stimulating and encouraging as you go through the book, uplifting and edifying you throughout!

encouragement for daily progress

Dr. Morris, founder of the Church Health Center, wants you to be healthier. He has created several booklets to help you do so, to improve your life, just a bit, day by day.
Each of the 40 days of readings begins with a morning reflection. He frequently relates the stories of people who have gone to his Church Health Center and have had positive results.
Each day also has short readings and practices on faith, medical, movement, work, emotion, family and friends, and nutrition. The daily reading ends with an evening wrap-up including Scripture, encouragement, and a prayer.
In the faith section, we are encouraged to get a journal and record our faith progress. We are helped to discover our habits, to be joyful, be thankful...
In the medical area we jot down all our medical concerns, learn to take our pulse, list the medications we take, record our family medical history, recognize the symptoms of stroke and heart attack, quit smoking, drink enough water, determine your BMI, and many more.
For movement, we are encouraged to get moving, go for a walk, stretch, get more vigorous in our activity, do jumping jacks, dance, exercise while waiting in line, use weights, and more.
Considering work, we are to journal what we like and dislike about it, use a stress ball, listen to music, prepare healthy lunches, walk during lunch, and more.
The emotional area is an important aspect of overall wellness. We are encouraged to journal our feelings, practice deep breathing, relax, and sit in the sun are a few of the suggestions.
We need family and friends and are encouraged to ask for their support, ask one to go along on the journey, journal how they have helped, and more.
Under nutrition, we are to keep a food journal, develop a healthy shopping list, learn to read food labels, regulate our salt intake, eat some raw vegetables and whole grains, reduce our meet consumption, among others.
Most of the days center on a specific theme, carried through the seven areas. Topics include motivation, goal setting, first steps, setbacks, habits, triggers, seasons, sound, balance, and endurance are some of them.

Bluebeard Gets Vocal

Murder Sends A Postcard is the third book in the A Haunted Souvenir Shop Mystery series.

A fun series featuring Glory Martine and her souvenir shop, and of course her "ghostly" parrot Bluebeard.

Bridget McKenna, a bank auditor, has arrived in this small community to get to the bottom of a financial fiasco at the local bank. Quite naturally most everyone is not happy to have Bridget in town, but Glory knows that she had a job to do and seems like someone she would like to get to know. Glory and her best friend, Karen, go to visit Bridget at the bankrupt housing development where she is staying. Soon Bridget dead body is found in the home and it is being called a drug overdose. Glory is doesn't believe it and when Bridget's brother takes over her audit, he asks for Glory's help in finding out what really happened with his sister.

The real estate developer, who had hopes of being a real estate mogul, had invested all of his monies in the project, maybe he is the killer. Maybe it is the bank manager who has lost his job and home. Or maybe it was the disgruntled purchaser of a lot that had threatened her when Glory was there.

Add to this Glory must once again contend with her cousin who has a minority interest in the souvenir shop. He has no "hands-on" experience with the shop, but still thinks he knows how to run it.

Glory and Jake are still enjoying getting to know each other and seem to be in no real hurry to take their friendship to a relationship. I'm old fashioned enough to like this.

And of course, what can one say about Bluebeard. You have to love him and is there once again to offer Glory a much needed clue.

Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Murder Sends a Postcard by Christy Fifield

Christy Fifield's third book in the Haunted Souvenir Shop series, Murder Sends a Postcard will have readers biting their nails as Glory tries to solve the murder of a bank auditor that no one seemed to like. Fifield's trademark wit and humor stand out in this cozy which features a haunted parrot named Bluebeard. Readers will enjoy Fifield's characters and fall in love with the Southern Treasures souvenir shop. A great addition to the series!

What I liked:

Fifield has a real way with humor in this series. A lot of it comes from the parrot host of Uncle Louie, affectionately named Bluebeard. Bluebeard is a great character who adds plenty of comic relief to a story that centers around murder. That bit of lightness gives Murder Sends a Postcard a much needed boost. Bluebeard also helps to solve the crime in this one by giving Glory a clue to the killer. I liked the fact that Fifield created a really interesting way to include a paranormal element by making the bird the host of a ghost. Very original.

I also really enjoy Glory's relationships with the other characters in the book. She and Jake are taking their relationship slowly and becoming friends before taking the plunge into something more intense. I'm glad Fifield chose to write it that way because it allows the reader to get to know them better in the beginning and it will be very satisfying when they do get together. Glory has some old friends and new friends in this book and I thought each character added something different to the mix. I liked how the interacted with each other, especially their Southern dinners which sound fun and full of surprises.

The mystery aspects of this one were well written and executed. The bank auditor comes across as perhaps a nice person that Glory wanted to get to know, which is interesting because usually we don't know that much about the victim in most cozies until after the murder. I liked the fact that the victims brother was the one that asked Glory to help figure out what happened to his sister and the fact that there were plenty of suspects from the lot owner to the bank manager.

What I didn't like:

Glory's cousin who has an interest in the souvenir shop provides the story a second source of conflict in the fact that he wants to run things around the shop though he has no idea what he's doing. But I think he is basically an unnecessary character. I think the story works well without this plot device but perhaps he will become more important as the series progresses.

This was pretty straight forward mystery and I had it figured out a little bit before I needed to. Once I knew who it was it took a little something out of the book. I liked the personal aspects more than the mystery in this case, which wouldn't be a bad thing if it were not a mystery novel.

Bottom Line:

This was a good addition to the series, even though I think there are a few flaws with it. Don't let those stand in your way of reading this one. It was good, but perhaps not the best in the series so far.

Very Fun Read!!!

I had actually stumbled upon this little piece after publishing a Vampire Diaries fan fiction story: Damon’s Diary. The cover caught my attention and after further investigation,(I investigate the books I purchase) I found that I didn’t quickly lose interest in the book. So I bought it. The first sentence is what captured me. It was simple, yet I knew the author knew the character. So, I bit.

During the tv series, I had always hoped for Klaus and Caroline to get together. That is, until Stephen had Caroline’s attention. Pam has the ability to hold the reader’s attention. When I finished the short I started looking for more by her. This is a wonderful fan-fiction short and I recommend the lovers of the Vampire Diaries series to check it out. It is a very fun read.
