Good story book, but poor to decent information book

I am having a hard time with the rating of this book in that as a story and a history, it is worth the five stars, but how it was marketed deserves something less.
I was interested in this book because the back cover marketing promised to show how I could make the move from the city to the country in stages. A lot of that detail is missing from this book. Probably more the publisher's fault than the author's fault. This book is more a narrative of Mr. Kains' experiences in three separate locations, the soil that he encountered, and quick remarks on how he dealt with it, and some of the crops he grew. Several stories about favorite pets are sprinkled liberally through out. A surprisingly negative chapter about hired help is included as well.
There are several excellent chapters on reviving fruit tree orchards and berry patches, and information on varieties of blackberries, raspberries, and strawberries, but no information on what Mr. Kains did to support himself once he bought his farm. There is no information about marketing produce in this book. "Ten Acres Enough" and "Gold in the Grass" are far better books for my situation.
I liked Mr. Kains' book "Five Acres and Independence." "We Wanted a Farm" demonstrates that Mr. Kains wrote "Five Acres" from first hand experience.
I recommend "We Wanted" as a narrative, and story book, but if you are interested in fruit trees and berries, Stella Otto's books may be better.
Norton Creek Press has republished "Ten Acres Enough", "Gold in the Grass", and "We Wanted a Farm" as three back to the land adventure books. I found "Ten Acres" the most interesting, and "We Wanted" the least interesting.
