Whitewashing War looks behind the fog of war

Whitewashing War is an important and useful book. Christopher Leahey has raised essential questions regarding war, and about the role that powerful elites in government and corporate media play in maintaining the myth of war. He helps us to see that the elite benefit from the status quo, and they have a vested interest in keeping the public ignorant about the true nature of war and of the policies that lead to war. Mr. Leahey has provided us with a clear description of the ways in which the myth of war has been maintained and helped us to recognize the need for an accurate and honest accounting of what war is, and why we continue to engage in it. He has helped us to approach our nation's policy of perpetual war as something to be questioned, and has made suggestions as to possible steps educators might take to expose the myth of war for what it is. Our students are those who will be asked to serve in the current wars, or the next ones, and we can be sure that those in power will not be telling them the truth about why their services are "needed," or about the nature of war itself. That truth telling falls to us, and we must work individually, and with others to act. Christopher Leahey has given us a powerful resource to help us to do so.
